Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese word that comes from ’Rei,’ meaning ’universal,’ and ’ki’ meaning ’life force.’ Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a form of energy healing from ancient Tibet, which was rediscovered in the late 19th-century by Mikao Usui. Reiki was brought to the West in the 1940s by Mrs Hawayo Takata, a Japanese Hawaiian who had experienced Reiki in Japan. She died in 1980, leaving 22 Reiki masters in the US and Canada. Today, thousands of people in the West have been initiated into Reiki.

Ki, being the Japanese spelling of chi (energy), is the power that acts and lives in all matter. The theory is that when ki is strong and free, it maintains the body and mind in a positive state of health and well-being, affecting it physically, emotionally, and spiritually. If ki is weak or blocked, either consciously or subconsciously, then the body may become emotionally, physically and spiritually unbalanced. Reiki energy can help clear these unbalanced blockages in the recipient.

Reiki, is a gentle, non manipulative and non invasive energy healing therapy. This complementary therapy can be used safely alongside conventional Western or Holistic Medicine. Reiki is useful for many conditions and symptoms such as mental, emotional and stress related problems. As this relaxing therapy has no contra indications or side effects, women, men, children and animals can benefit from it. Reiki can feel different for everyone, however the most common response is one of peace, a sensation of lightness and deep relaxation.
